About Us
B.S.L Training is a British Sign Language and Deaf Awareness Training provider with desire to unite hearing and deaf people together.

We are an acclaimed Deaf-led organisation based in Maidstone, with classes running across the whole of Kent. We provide accredited courses at various levels of study. We also provide bespoke mobile teaching upon request, covering the South East and London.

We are tremendously passionate about bringing hearing and Deaf communities together and enhancing communication between the two, and we believe this is something you will experience in one of our classes. As well as learning Deaf Awareness and British Sign Language, you will also learn about the richness and diversity of Deaf Culture. As all of our teachers are native British Sign Language users, what better way to deepen your knowledge and learn these valuable skills than from an experienced, highly qualified teacher who also lives in the Deaf world, day in and day out.

WHO WEÂ ARE
Karen and Andrew
Barriers to communication encountered every day by Andrew and Karen Belcher inspired them to set up a business to improve communication between Deaf and hearing people.
Both Karen and Andrew were born profoundly Deaf and are native British Sign Language users. The couple have also faced many battles to have the same equality as others, particularly when it comes to communication. Their desire to educate people about British Sign Language and Deaf Awareness is evident in their classes.

Andrew’s career began as a Social Worker Assistant, specialising in Deaf children. This experience, along with raising his profoundly Deaf children, ignited an aspiration to enable communication for all. This led to Andrew becoming a qualified teacher and delivering courses, which has expanded over the years. He has now taught at various establishments for more than 11 years.

Karen, being the middle of three generations of Deafness in her family, offers experiences from different aspects. Karen is also a qualified BSL Translator and holds the Certificate in Education, along with over 16 years’ experience of delivering Deaf Awareness and teaching British Sign Language. Karen also works as an In-Vision Translator for television and websites.

With these combined experiences, Karen and Andrew offer many perspectives; as a child of Deaf adults, being Deaf themselves, and eventually, as parents of Deaf children. This has proven to be especially beneficial for all students, especially for schools and families alike.
Along with the passion for their native language, they are determined to provide high quality learning for students. Classes are fun, interactive, and taught from the heart, but with the professional integrity one would expect from a training provider.
Andrew was a finalist for the highly competitive Excellent Teacher category at the Signature Awards in November 2018. On learning about his nomination Andrew said, "I was stunned to be nominated! This shows my passion our beautiful language transpires into my classes. Thank you to those who nominated me!"
